There’s a reason why Carefree Covered RV Storage’s flagship facility is located in Arizona, and pretty much anyone can correctly guess why. Still need a hint? With its almost 114,000 square miles of diverse landscape, warm weather, and countless natural attractions, Arizona (or as some call it, “RV-zona”) is an RVer’s paradise.
If you live right here in the Grand Canyon State, then you already know that the sixth largest state in the US is a study in opposites and home to some phenomenal hidden gems — and the ever-growing RV crowd sure knows it too.
Arizona is one of the most beautiful states in the country, and RVers always see it as an enticing option. With about half of its 31 state parks offering RV hookups, and more than 400 private RV resorts and parks scattered around the state, there’s no shortage of places to experience RV living and all Arizona has to offer.
And just what does Arizona bring to the table? Well, for starters, there’s this little hole in the dirt called the Grand Canyon. Of course, we’re kidding! Besides this crown jewel of Arizona, our beloved state boasts deserts, rivers, lakes, and vistas that are nothing short of masterpieces. There’s one natural gem after another, and even the rocks here are steeped in history.
But don’t pigeonhole us — there’s still plenty of green to be seen, with the northern half of the state full of forests brimming with pine, Douglas fir, and spruce trees. We’ve also got the San Francisco Mountains, Humphrey’s Peak, and great skiing in Flagstaff, Alpine, and Tucson.
And, while it’s no secret that Arizona was home to some of the most ruthless outlaws and respected lawmen around (OK Corral and Wyatt Earp, anyone?), did you know that Arizona is also home to a very productive wine country? Yes, surprises about our state abound around almost every corner.
So, you can see why picking just five RV resorts to highlight in the “land of RV plenty” seems like an impossible task. But, after spending a lot of time researching and cross-referencing top-rated customer reviews with respected industry reviews, we’ve landed on five that represent the diverse tradition of living the RV life in Arizona. We think our list represents a little something for everyone.
At least, these are the five we’ve settled on today. Ask us again tomorrow! Seriously though, we’re not being wishy-washy, it’s just that there are so many great RV resorts to visit that it’s pretty hard to go wrong. And, that’s certainly not a bad problem to have!
While we feature locations of varying sizes, each site adheres to criteria we believe are most important for a successful RV adventure. All include full hookups, pull-thru sites, room for slideouts, clean bathrooms and laundry facilities, and sites that support up to 50 max amps. And the big bonus? All of our selections are eco/pet/budget-friendly, plus have handicap accessible units.
Of course, we’d be remiss not to point out that there’s a season for everything. You’ll find the best RVing adventures in Arizona happen between November and April — that is, unless you just really like camping in 100+ temperatures. And as with any travel planning, be sure to do your own research to review resorts’ pricing, policies, deals, and restrictions.
Ready? We’ll start in central Arizona, swing over to the California border, head south for a stop, and then wrap it up in the infamous Tombstone. Let’s go! | |

What People Are Saying: “Great RV resort and amazing staff! Loved our stay here. There’s a lot to do on-site: two hot tubs, heated pool, ping pong, tabletop shuffleboard, pool table, lots of board games, work out room. Sites are gravel, long and wide, and pretty much level. They are still doing upgrades to the resort. It’s a big resort, so if you like to take walks or ride bikes, there are a lot of wide-open spaces to do those things. I highly recommend this resort!” — Steve P.
